"Then the righteous will answer him,'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?' 'When did we see you a stranger and invite you in or needing clothes and clothe you?' 'When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'
- Matthew 25: 37-39

Grace Haven Ministries was created by founder, Loretta Phalen. Shortly after Loretta’s husband, Dave Phalen, took office as the Fairfield County, Ohio, Sheriff; he expanded the jail ministry to bring many churches and volunteers to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the inmates. At that time, Loretta felt a strong calling to become involved in that jail ministry.

After several years of ministering in the jail, Loretta saw the heartbreaking circumstances of women who had made very poor choices, but wanted a new start. Many of these women were followers of Jesus Christ. When the ladies left the jail some had nowhere to go, nothing to eat and nothing to wear. Others had nowhere to go except back to the environment and circumstances they had left. Without help and support, it was nearly impossible for these individuals to make a break from their old lifestyles to start anew with the hope of Jesus.
